Reject Reinstall by Montage Populaire http://soundcloud.com/montagepopulaire/montage-populaire-reject-reinstall-demo So catchy, quirky and they're from Southampton so I can just pop down the pub to see them!!

I really like this. Although it hooks you, there's still an incredible amount crammed in it. Had to stop counting the influences after running out of fingers ten seconds into the song. Yet it sounds refreshingly original, above all.

Playing an album by another very quirky band from that part of the world (nearby Portsmouth), the Cranes. A self titled effort issued too far into the career suggests a wearying of ingenuity. Although this could still captivate anyone unfamiliar with their work, it lacks the rumbling moodiness to whisk the listener's sense away to different, edgy environment, which was potent in some of their earlier stuff. 6.8/10

He's On The Phone (Motiv8 remix) - Saint Etienne 9/10

Having just listened to Now That I Own The BBC (Motiv8 remix), I spotted this and remember dancing to it in Indie clubs in the 90s.

A few years ago, the daughters and neices of our helper took (dragged) me up town on a night out. They were seriously up for it. I had no idea. They were teens and I was OLD! They had t shirts made & stuff & dragged me to this horribble teeny place. Their t shirts just said "Bish Bash Bosh". I have never been so mortified in my life!
But all the young kids seemed to like it. Aaargh!
Here's the choon... Pre Sparks,

Ah yes, even my musically talented but fickle wee cellist sisters both liked the extended reissue of "Different Class" by Jook, which has never ever made it back to its prospective slot in the alphabetically arrayed CD shelf.

Listening to Zoot Money's "Transition", which is full of good arrangements, commanding a solid 8/10.
