This morning we've finally turned the heater on. 9th day of November. It's the first time we do it so late in the year. Money-saving indeed, but also a bit worrying.

I (used to , when I was working) always advise people to put their heating on through the year. This ensures that fans on warm air heating don't jam most WAUs have a summer fan setting. On wet central heating, it ensures pumps don't seize up and prevents sludge from settling low down in pipes and radiators. So that when you do come to use the heating, it is all functioning ok, any faults would be recognised and repaired before the cold weather sets in.

7 C here, somewhat sunny now, and the first sleet of the season has melted off, but I've had to scrape my car windows the last couple of mornings and it's only a matter of time before we see proper winter weather (hopefully not at Thanksgiving - winter storms have delayed our Thanksgiving dinner before but as family get-togethers go Thanksgiving's at least as big a deal as Christmas 'round this part of the US.)

Our home heating works fine, but no one's happy at the blast of cold air that now comes in with every opening of our front door.

Reports of snow in Sussex and Surrey are greatly exaggerated...as usual...it is the yearly "Snenvy Syndrome"
