James Mason bashes Ann Todd's hands with a stick in the 1945 film The Seventh Veil when he's teaching her piano. As a young girl I found this very erotic... James Mason was absolutely gorgeous, so that helped. _________________

Off topic still, but I just wanted to add something about the visuals that sometimes accompany Sparks' lyrics. The many many film references are an obvious example of invoking images with words. My favourite is from Frankly, Scarlett, I don't give a damn. Of course the title conjures forth the end of Gone with the Wind, but my favourite bit are the lines
Quote: | If I wanted to, I could remove all thoughts of him from your head
Like this, like this |
Which parallel the scene where Rhett presses his hands against Scarlett's head and says:
Quote: | Observe my hands, my dear. I could tear you to pieces with them. And I'd do it if it'd take Ashley out of your mind forever. But it wouldn't. So I'll remove him from your mind forever this way. I'll put my hand so. One on each side of your head. And I'll smash your skull between them like a walnut. That'll block him out. |
Such a great reference, such a great scene, such a great song. _________________

lady
i never saw "gone with the wind"
would you believe it !?
shame on me...
so my only images from it, are the famous scenes.
not more than this.
"Like this, like this "is my favorite sentence from this song.
the image of russell and the special way he sings this words, got stucked in my head from this video :

so when i hear this song i imagine russell, and not scarlet :) _________________ life isn't much, but there's nothing else to do. |

I liked the videos from your mind, Corina :) Both of them!
If I add the reference given by Lady, then here's a living proof that "How Do I Get To Carnegie Hall" could be understood as some kind of distant and much more refined answer to "Amateur Hour". And maybe with some ghost of Liberace instead of a Menuhin wannabe.
Paradise on earth, that's "Frankly, Scarlett". And there's also the earlier "Gone With The Wind" ("But we could mention that the South might rise again..."), played as an encore at 21x21.
Can't resist to mention too my favorite kitschy western (this time the town is big enough for both of them and the gunshots are completely missing):

That "With all my might" video is as camp as Larry (as they say). Ron is priceless! Who is the girl in it? _________________ Gonna hang myself from my family tree. |

It's best I don't answer that... let's just say as far cruel tyrannical piano teachers go James Mason's pretty hot. I just realised that the scene from Gone With The Wind is quite sadistic too... must have been the mood I was in yesterday. You should definitely check out Gone With The Wind if you get the chance. It's great.

jill
i forgot to say that i also imagined "waterproof" video like some kind of a musical, where everybody are dressed with yello plastic rain coats, and are dancing around, swinging their colourful umbrellas.
i see it so real in my minds eye! :)
lady
you know that by not answering my question, you actually did answer!
so now when i know the answer...i will keep the role of the music student in my "carnegie hall" clip, for you!
i dont envy you, she is going to hit you so hard, this music teacher!
and sorry...she is not hot as james mason.
just an old, thin and bitter woman, dressed in black.

Ah, darn, I'd much rather have James Mason and hey, who did that great photoshop of Ron in that painting? It's genius ;)
On the topic of imagery that goes along with Sparks songs AND relating to the initial topic of attraction playing a part in Sparks fandom, one image I always try to have in mind when listening to Grat Sax is this one:
I wonder why? _________________
