I think I've played my LP of "Indiscreet" so many times that my mum's gonna come around and smack me in the face with it.
Looks like Kimono's in the lead.
It was hard to choose only one.
I'll make a quick note of my top 5.
1. Indiscreet
2. Propaganda
3. No. 1 in Heaven
4. Angst In My Pants
5. Kimono My House
Of course, that changes weekly ... _________________ Last.fm.

I honestly think it impossible to pick a `favourite` album, of course some bring back great memories of days gone by, the first time you heard the intro to `This Town..`or the start of `Hospitality On Parade`. But if you listen to all Sparks albums, you fall for them all. I am currently playing `Angst In My Pants`, last week it was `Gratuitous Sax...`. Next week? What I am saying is they are ALL brilliant. |

On this incomplete poll, Lil'Beethoven. But if I consider only the pre-Lil'Beethoven epoch, I guess my favorites are Kimono and Gratuitous Sax. _________________ Entertainment or art - one should know from the start |

Ho ho ho, classic thread!!!! Although its seriously out of date, I do hope that it ISN'T deleted. The comments in it are really good and varied. With no regrets, I am happy to contradict what I said in 2005. In fact, I also note some posts of that era by other fans, whose opinions have now diverged. Most of all, the thread should continue to serve as an important reference point for fans pre 21x21. A lot of people like me had to make the effort and acquire the whole 21 albums then, and would only be equipped to rate these albums properly afterwards.
The thread also was started before Hello Young Lovers, Exotic Creatures of the Deep, and The Seduction of Ingmar Bergman. The first spin of Hello Young Lovers propelled it to the top of my favourite albums by ANYONE, and has stayed there like an immovable rock. I'm sure Stephen isn't alone in favouring Exotic Creatures above everything else. Furthermore, I know at least one Sparks fan who considers the Bergman musical as the best thing they've ever done.
21x21 has, on occasion, been referred to as "an experiment". It was also the biggest and most thorough information exchange between fans of a band in rock history. What this proved was that nearly all of the albums have champions among the fans. This thread is early evidence of this.
Another characteristic of Sparks albums is that no two albums sound exactly the same. Several are such a significant departure from the style of their predecessor as to initially alienate some fans. However, even more commonplace is Sparks success in following up with a later album which is so brilliant it eclipses any previous temporary disappointment.
Some Sparks albums grow on the listener. Even among the two or three albums given negative comments, there are still plenty of fans who find something praiseworthy.
Yet another 21x21 general finding was that the fans rate ALL of Sparks work significantly higher than an astonished Ron and Russell can ever grasp. The fans were pushing for the band to play cherished unreleased material, over and above the wealth of recording gems - one guy asked the bewildered duo to release the Halfnelson demos. Moreover, the fans were vocally grateful to one-off hear performances of material written by R&R for other performers. It became all the more obvious that it was the Maels' songs that fans want, rather than covers of other artists' work, which is a theme you'll find in this thread.
Above all, its great that Sparks are still churning out a wealth of material attracting new fans keen to share their opinion. |

2013 and the first album (Halfnelson) still seems as fresh as the first time I heard it, I'd say on average I've listened to it once a day for the last 30 years. I say 'on average' I kid you not i've played it four times today!

Today I voted for No.1 In Heaven. If I'd voted tomorrow I might have voted for Gratuitous Sax, or maybe Kimono My House, perhaps Whomp That Sucker. Actually Introducing Sparks was my favourite at one time. Tricky poll this one. Does anyone know the right answer? _________________ vrati врати цени пощенски кутии |
