Outstanding contribution to music

Appears the boys are in London, and news on a new label

A well deserved win! ... and I'm glad they've moved on from Island records who frankly squandered the opportunity to work effectively with Sparks again.

Here is the quote from Billboard:

"This year’s outstanding contribution to music award was collected by U.S. pop rock duo Sparks, who used the occasion to announce that they have signed a global deal with Transgressive Records for their next studio album. The as-yet-untitled release, due next year, will be distributed by Firebird Label Services, marking the veteran band’s return to the indie music community after reuniting with Island Records for last year’s The Girl Is Crying In Her Latte studio set."

That's brilliant news to see & well deserved of course. I'm sure Ron & Russell will be chuffed to still be referred to as boys by yourself too Dinky. It's very affectionate & very charming.
The change of record label from Island is a bit of a surprise though. They're used to changing labels by now I know but I have to agree that with all the 50th anniversaries of Kimono, This Town & Propaganda this year, Island could have made more of the opportunity to promote this historic fact.
Their visit also coincides with the release of The Last Dinner Party's updated Mercury nominated first album which includes their brilliant & highly praised cover of This Town. Their London concert at the Hammersmith Apollo this Saturday Oct 19th also is good timing. If Ron & Russell don't attend that concert I will be very surprised & it'll also give th bands a chance to meet up with each other, that's if they haven't already. Maybe even a stage appearance, who knows?
It'll also be 50 years on Nov 11th since Sparks played their London gig at the very same venue when promoting the release of Propaganda on the same day. Never Turn Your Back On Mother Earth had already been released in the October becoming their 3rd top 20 hit with memorable TOTP performances. A busy time for Sparks back then but, call me Mystic Meg, I wouldn't be surprised at all if there's a story somewhere on Sunday about Saturday's gig.

I heard that through Twitter this morning, but I had no idea they were nominated in the first place, so I didn't watch the show. Hope we'll get videos of their acceptance speech soon!

Of course it's well deserved and I'm very proud of them, as I always am :)
