Well, just a bit of fun while Febuary looms ever closer, Yippee!! I'm getting all excited now, I can't wait for Salford and Leicester, and of course the album. So, it's five down, five to go and having heard those five songs quite a few times now, (friends are beginning to question my sanity!), here's my favorites in the tradition of reverse order.
5th. Dick Around
4th. Metaphor
3rd. Waterproof
2nd. Baby baby, can i invade your country
1ST Perfume
I know you'll disagree with those placings, so what your fav? _________________ There's a Hippopotamus, a Hippopotamus... |

it Dawns what a brilliant Song it is..
The room to improvise on this song with the Guitars makes
it a Candidate for a Star attraction on the Live Set...
All the others are 5 star as well thats just how i list them

I honestly couldn't put any of the tracks higher(or lower) than the others,so far I've got 5 tracks of excellence....and if the album versions are,as rumoured,to be even better....we will all have difficulty choosing a top track, but oh what hours of listening delight trying.....lol |

Sorry Guys... IMHO, BBCIIYC is thus far in front... Perfume, though is probably a good choice for the first single. Again, only IMO.
I just love the infectious and superbly played accoustic guitar on Baby... |

I agree that "Perfume" is an excellent choice for a first single, but "Baby, baby, can I invade your country?" in my favorite so far. I also believe it could have a possible commercial appeal. The guitar work is wonderful!!!!
I could see a music video with a country music theme. Picture this:
Ron on stage "fiddling" a violin, Russell singing in cowboy gear - the shirt with "tassles", a cowgirl hat and boots on Tammy with cotton, checkerd shirts on all guitarist and a special appearance by Keith Urban in the mass of people line dancing or square dancing below the stage in a very well lit barn type of setting.
Okay, so my mind does wonder. However, this should show the effect this song had on me.
Yes, yes you could have flashes of a very formally dressed band (tuxedos and long white gown with heels) in an orchestral type setting as well. What ?! You want a combat dressed band crawling across the terrian as well! Y'all want everything...sounds like a song again.
Anyway.. this is my choice. |

Those were my thoughts too...
But! Is there a deeper, darker, more sexual meaning here??
Every time I try to analyse any Sparks' lyrics, I get confused!!
But! I still prefer to accept the innocent interpretation! LOL!
Still, I'd vote again for Baby... So Far! |

Considering that bunnies are thought by many to be the most prolifics mammals and considering bunnies cover the front of the new album, which happens to have the word "lover" in it's title, you dare to suggest this song of invasion may have a sexual twist to it.
Sexual? Sparks? Are you serious??? LOL!!! I thought that would be the flashes in the video of the combat clothed crawling across the terrian. There are all kinds of battles won and lost during "war".
Sparks lyrics are always deeper than surface meaning and can also be taken at "face value". Much like an ink blot test - it means different things to different people and many things all at the same time to a few. That being written, what does this say of you loz? hmmm |

"The drapes are drawn and the lights are low
It is time to put in practise what you've done along"
No two ways about it, they are referring to masturbation.
"How well I know, tits were only there for fun and games at home"
"Here comes the night, there goes my heart. Let's make love and not fall apart."
"So we talked and talked and talked a little more. And one thing led to another as they often do in these situations."
Sparks sexual? You can bet yer life!! :-D _________________ 'You'll be in the future if you don't do nothing foolish' - Ron Mael

1. Metaphor
2. Dick Around
3. Waterproof
4. Baby etc.
5. Perfume
It's totally subjective of course, but I personally think Perfume is the weakest and least remarkable track of them all, and will need a lot of airplay to be a hit.
And as Ron's a master of double entendre they'll all be about sex on one level, won't they?! "Baby" reminds me of "Reinforcements" with it's military campaign/ sexual conquest metaphor. _________________ You see a peanut, and the day's off to a good start. Beauty may well be in the eye of the beholder...but MEANING is in the ear of the listener. It is easy to assume that everything you hear has a sexual connotation(Freud would have had a field day on these boards)...but as everyone has a different viewpoint of sex....the sexual,as well as quite innocent meanings(interpretations) will still vary from person to person.
My advice is to enjoy the music whichever way you like, but don't dissemble the wit ...else it'll get "weak and watered down"! |
