It could have come from the French Sparks site also... I've never in my life have got these spam posts in my computer before. But there is hope: in last two days, I've got no disgusting mails!

Drats! I could have really used some Viagra from our newest member!
But! I just couldn't bring myself to click in his website!
Mods! I have offered you the easy fix! Remove the option to post a URL until they acknowledge the e-mail! The squiggly letter thing is easy for anyone with OCR!

Spammail is a worldwide problem. There is stuff you can do and programs (SpamAssassin or Hitman Pro) you can use but it won't stop all of it. making sure you and the people you mail with all have an up-to-date anti-virussoftware is a must. Having all the latest patches voor Windows is also adviseable voor you and the folks you mail to. Once your e-mailadres is hi-jacked and known to be active it could be (re-)sold to guys wanna making money off it.

O don't cry. Often todays internetproviders allow you to have aliases, let's say your at planet your e-mail account is something like missy@planet.fi. Depending on your internetprovider they can offer you as many as 10 aliases which you can pick-out yourself. So you can choose missy2@planet.fi or missy1974@planet.fi or adsl12345678@planet.fi or missy.spam.free@planet.fi or miss_y@planet.fi. Once you get to much spam-e-mails on one account. Abandon it en get another and share that one with only you closest friends who all have patched up systems (mac OS X or Windows or Linux) and antivirussoftware. You will have some time of relative spamfreedom untill the bad people have found this new one. It's far from ideal but it works for a while.

PS never post an e-mailadres on any site/forum etc cos you will get spammed. Use 2 or 3 e-mailadressen. One e-mailaccount (yahoo/hotmail/msn) on which you expect spam (and virusses) to come but no important messages. One for your closest friends/family (who know how to use that correctly: keep it secret!) and one e-mailadres for the rest. Some internetproviders offer spamkilling and viruskilling at some extra cost. Hope i did not make your head spin

@Missy!
Try logging on to www.symantec.com
They offer a free virus/spam/spyware scan.
If you do not already have it, buy Norton anticrap software.
Via Symantec. It's belt and braces. But you must automate it to pick up all the new nasties at least once per week.

Money spend on antivirussoftware is well spend... if you get a total systemcrash or a really, really slooooooooow system it's more than irritating and cost of repairs go far beyond twice or triple that spend on av-software. However there is plent of good free stuff: AVG, AVAST and my favorite from germany www.free-av.com (free for personal use).

Hey, Loz what's going on? Sure I wanna help out but what you have in mind? I assume you're talking about the members with websites to strange places. To keep it short/fast sollution: don't look them up. I'm not interested in new members until the get unto a topic and reveal themselfs .... no not that!

..or is it something else? maybe new members/posters should not be able to post until they've been given permission by a moderator even if somehow this looks like a big brother scenario.

It looks as though they are tempting you to watch a video (reference to media player being made) of said event and then it looks as though you will need to download a plugin to be able to watch and then no doubt, your computer will be infested with a virus. That's my take on their game anyway.

Can they get hold of your email address because I have never had so much junk email as what I am getting at the moment. 45 emails today and 99% of it was a load of hooey. It will all be relative now though cause in the next couple of days, my email address will be changing and I will inform the people who want to know what it will be. It's all to do with Telewest/NTL being taken over by Virgin. God bless Richard Branston

If i remember correctly i read a story last week saying spam(e-mails) had been up 280% compaired to 3 months ago. I used to hardly get any spammails but since about a year (or maybe two) ago they seem to find me. I assume more people i know who have a computer more often have been infected with malware etc. I guess the shear volume of send spam/virussen/mailware is rising so much it effects more and more folks.

Everyone:

I used to get a lot more spam, but it's way down in 2 of my 3
e-mail accounts - the other one gets the bulk of it - Hotmail
does have a 'block' feature, but it gets filled up so fast that I
don't even bother using that anymore - it's just easier to click
and delete.

Still, these automated spam-bots change their addresses daily,
but at least Hotmail filters out most of it to the Junk Mail box.

Bill

Ian:

Like I suggested before, R&R should just move the forum
to a new platform - EZ Board and Yuku seem to be the best.

A lot of artists and their sites are making the migration 'over
there.'

You also had mentioned before that these automated spam-bots
are just exploiting a bug in the PHPBB software.

Not sure if the moderators would be able to fix it??

Thanks,
Bill

I've had a quick look at both and the main feature is: membership by approval something they could also consider here, just like at Kosheen were they use even older PHPBB version. The thing is PHPBB is one of the most used so if you're a spamposter you'd wanna spend more time on those. Probably less time invested and a higher yield (result). It would be interesting to change software but first and more important imho to change membershipprocedure. Time and money most likely being the main obsticals.

I guess we all get those annoying emails from Jazmine and company
It is funny how in the subject line they start with: "RE:" like I have already written to them and now just replying to my message. They must relly think people are stupid!!! I know who I am writing to and it's sure not to Jazmine that asking me if I want to increase my ...... 3 inches!!!!!!
